Forenz Fighting Messer
These are our first locally made blades, created by a member of SoCal Swords and tested extensively in the club. Produced in Orange County, they are designed with durability and affordability in mind, featuring easily replaceable fittings and handles for years of enjoyment. Both the blade and fittings are made of AR500 steel for long-lasting toughness. The tips are not specifically thickened or rolled, so be aware they may be narrower than some other messers. If desired, you can add a protective tip, leather, or some tape over the tip to help cushion the impact (however, we have been using them un-tipped in our testing without issue).
We offer both a lower cost standard edition with a durable 3D-printed handle (TPU) and satin finish blade, and a premium edition with a hand-shaped wooden handle and blackened blade and fittings. Replacement handles are available for both the standard and premium edition messers- just reach out to us if you need anything!
The guards can be flipped on these for left or right handed versions.

Taking it out of the box, the guard and pommel were already rusted. The blade itself was very rough, about 100 grit and had many gouges from bad grinding techniques. All edges were square, the blade edges were slightly knocked off, but still too dangerous for sparring. The guard and pommel were sharp edged with no finish work done after the cutting. I do blacksmithing and metal work and estimate that it would have taken me an hour or more, using skills and tools that most don't have, in order to make it safe for sparring.
I like everything about it. I bought mine from Forenz before it became mainstream and so far after 4 months of solid use I am truly impressed. Perfect balance the Nagel shape and the length of the handle is just right.
